Why Access Burlington?
In 2006 an attempt was made to develop an Aging In Place organization in Burlington, based on the model of Beacon Hill Village in Boston. As various aspects of that organization were worked on, it seemed that there was no central database, or collection point for information, on services for seniors in Burlington, Vermont and the region. So the initial thought was to collect the information, and then decide how best to use it.
It soon became clear that activities, educational opportunities, community involvement and other opportunities that make living here pleasant should also be included. And many of these apply not just to seniors, but also to younger residents and visitors to the Burlington, Vermont region.
The database has become very large. Comprehensive is good, but unwieldy can make the information not accessible. So developing this website with a powerful search capability became an essential goal. Even though the website will be comprehensive, I am sure it will not be absolutely complete. Users will find services and activities not included. I hope you will provide feedback to make the website more complete.
